When people think of Greece, they usually imagine the usual crowded spots. But if you are looking for raw beauty, authentic vibes, and light that does half the photographic work for you, Naxos is the real hidden gem. It’s not just a summer holiday destination; it’s the ultimate location for a destination wedding. Nicole and Derek chose this island for its wild charm and character, away from the standard tourist tracks. Here is a glimpse of the setting that made their day unforgettable.

Inside Nicole's preparation
When I walked into the room, the energy was instantly clear. Nicole’s prep was vibrant and packed with character. I captured her standing in front of the mirror, putting on her earrings, while her stunning, fully glittered wedding dress caught every single ray of light. I love documenting those quick, real moments, like her mom stepping in to adjust the dress. Right there in the same room, her bridesmaids brought a massive burst of color. They weren’t wearing matching outfits, but bright, contrasting colors that perfectly matched the island’s vibe and a bouquet exploding with colorful flowers. Even after years in this industry, every couple brings something fresh and completely original.

Derek’s preparation
Moving over to Derek, the mood was completely different but equally intense. No closed rooms here, he spent his prep outside, surrounded by his family and closest friends, making the most of the Greek sun. It was relaxed and authentic. What caught my eye immediately was a sharp, intentional detail on his jacket: a boutonnière that perfectly matched the explosion of vibrant colors from Nicole’s bouquet. As a photographer, having a sharp eye for these details is everything, and I made sure to capture this perfect visual connection.

The First Look: silence, steps, and real emotions
For the first look, we chose a spot that perfectly sums up the raw beauty of Naxos: a stone staircase with wild mountains and intense greenery framing the scene. Derek was standing at the top, his back turned, waiting. Nicole started walking up the steps toward him. In moments like this, my entire approach shifts, I completely blend into the background. The real challenge, and the best part of my job, is capturing all those raw, spontaneous expressions without getting in the way or making the couple feel watched. When Derek finally turned around, his reaction was completely genuine, and my lens was just there to document it silently.

The Ceremony inside a traditional olive press
The ceremony was held in a small, traditional stone olive press in Naxos. The visual contrast worked perfectly: the rough texture of the stone walls mixed with the bright, bold colors of the flowers. Inside, the space was small and intimate. I focused entirely on documenting the actual moments as they happened, the exchange of vows, the looks between Nicole and Derek, and the real reactions of the guests. No forced poses or directions, just capturing the real events of the ceremony.

Authentic couple portraits around the white architecture
Right after the ceremony, we sneaked away for a few quiet portraits. We started on a beautiful white staircase belonging to their classic white and blue building, which is so iconically Greek. The wild mountains in the background created the most incredible backdrop. Afterwards, we simply moved down the steps to change perspective, continuing the session with a traditional white church right behind them. Nicole and Derek were completely relaxed, making it so easy to just focus on their connection.
We even met some local donkeys and stopped to feed them. This was very important for Nicole, so I made sure to make this happen during our session. Honestly, these are my absolute favorite moments to shoot. I prefer documenting these spontaneous, real scenes that show the true spirit and fun of the day.
