Over the past few years, I’ve seen Rome change a lot. Requests for couple and elopement photo sessions have grown, together with the number of visitors in the city.
Recent data confirms it: in 2025 Rome recorded around 22.9 million arrivals and more than 52 million overnight stays, marking a new tourism record.
Rome continues to be one of the most desired destinations for couples dreaming of a romantic photo shoot surrounded by history, art, and timeless architecture. At the same time, working in the most famous locations now requires much more planning than it did a few years ago.
More tourism also means new regulations
As visitor numbers increase, the city is introducing measures to better manage crowds and protect historic landmarks.
A recent example is the introduction of a small fee (around €2) to access the closest area of the Trevi Fountain, designed to reduce overcrowding and help preserve one of Rome’s most iconic spots.

The square itself remains accessible, but the overall experience is becoming more regulated. This reflects a broader direction: making tourism in Rome more sustainable and better organized.
